Issue of Banknote of Rs1000

On 29 June 1999, the Bank of Mauritius announced that the Rs1000 banknote forming part of the 1999 family of banknotes will be issued subsequently.

It is notified for public information that the Rs1000 banknote of the 1999 family of banknotes is being issued under section 29 of the Bank of Mauritius Act as from today.

The public is being urged once again to exchange at any commercial bank all banknotes which were issued by the Bank of Mauritius prior to 1 July 1999 against banknotes of the new family. Banknotes issued by the Bank prior to 1 July 1999 will cease to be legal tender as from 1 October 1999 and may be exchanged after this date only at the counter of the Bank of Mauritius.
