Scam Alert: Social media post pertaining to investment scheme

It has come to the notice of the Bank of Mauritius (Bank) that a scam in the form of a post containing an AI-generated image of the Governor of the Bank of Mauritius, Dr Priscilla Muthoora Thakoor, and that of a business personality, and enticing members of the public to subscribe to an investment scheme is currently circulating on social media.

Members of the public are strongly cautioned against investing in this fraudulent scheme which falsely and maliciously purports to be endorsed by the Bank and commercial banks operating in Mauritius. If consumers of financial services and products feel that they may have been scammed, they should immediately report the matter to the Police.

The public is encouraged to bring to the Bank’s attention any such social media posts.

Members of the public who have any doubt about the authenticity of a social media post, email, letter or telephone communication pertaining to banking services and products, or purportedly from, for, or on behalf of the Bank and/or its officials, or any of its licensees, should call on 202 3800 or send an email on communications@bom.mu before taking any action that could result in falling prey to fraud.
