The Bank of Mauritius (the Bank) has taken cognizance of an advertisement in the press soliciting deposits from the public under a tax free fixed deposit scheme.
The Bank hereby informs the members of the public that in terms of the Banking Act 2004 , no person shall engage in banking business/deposit taking business in Mauritius without a licence issued by the Bank.
A list of banks and non-bank deposit taking institutions licensed under the Banking Act 2004 can be accessed from the Bank’s website http://bom.intnet.mu./
No person other than the banks and non-bank deposit taking institutions listed on the Bank’s website can accept deposits in Mauritius.
The above fact is being brought to the attention of the public to caution them against dealing with unauthorised persons.
