Her Excellency Mrs Ameenah Gurib-Fakim G.C.S.K., C.S.K., PhD, The President of the Republic of Mauritius, visited the Bank of Mauritius (‘Bank’) today at the invitation of Mr R. Basant Roi G.C.S.K., the Governor of the Bank of Mauritius.
Her Excellency The President exchanged views with Governor Basant Roi on general and specific issues and signed the Visitors’ Book of the Bank.
In his welcoming remarks in front of a parterre of officers of the Bank, Governor Basant Roi retraced the visits paid by previous Heads of State to the Bank and qualified the visit of Her Excellency The President as an “… extraordinary visit in the ordinary course of our central banking life”.
Her Excellency The President addressed the staff members and highlighted that the “… Bank of Mauritius has indeed a long history and …. has the capacity to stimulate and enhance the social economic well-being of our citizens, from all walks of lives”. She underscored the critical role that the Bank plays in “… our banking and financial services system, and above all, in helping create a conducive climate for investment and economic growth”. Her Excellency The President commended the “… staffs, from lower to senior management levels, [who] have also contributed to transform the Bank into a citadel of our banking and financial market systems”.
The Bank was deeply privileged today to have received the visit of Her Excellency The President.
